About this specimen
Brown to smoky-toned calcite crystals are distributed across a white quartz-rich surface. Several have short columnar forms with broad polygonal ends, while many smaller crystals fill the surrounding area. The opposite side is much whiter and carries fewer prominent brown crystals.
The difference between the two faces is a defining feature of this Fujian piece. One presents a concentrated patch of darker crystals; the other emphasizes the sparkling pale quartz with isolated brown growths. The irregular slab-like outline allows both the mineral distribution and the contrast in crystal density to be examined.
