About this specimen
A broad cream-colored calcite crystal dominates this Fujian specimen. Its nearly rectangular front face contrasts with the uneven tan-brown material behind it, while small white crystalline clusters project near the lower edge. The main crystal is softly translucent in places, with cloudy internal areas and fine lines interrupting the pale face.
The large block sits diagonally across its textured foundation. The granular brown surface and smaller white growths give scale to the principal crystal without competing with its simple outline. This calcite-on-quartz association is especially distinctive for that contrast between one broad face and many fine surface details. Fluorescence is reported for this calcite association; its cream-colored appearance here is shown in ordinary light.
