About this specimen
A broad pale quartz area occupies the middle of this Yaogangxian association, with strongly purple fluorite crystals grouped around parts of the outer margin. Small reflective mica-like plates form a finely textured border, and dark grains occur near the edges.
Larger purple crystals gather toward the top and one side of the quartz center. This makes the pale center and richly colored rim the main compositional contrast. The association comprises fluorite, quartz, mica and cassiterite, with phantom growth reported in the fluorite.
Locality: Yaogangxian, Hunan, China. Weight: 35 g (1.23 oz). Dimensions: 5 × 1.5 × 3 cm (50 × 15 × 30 mm; 1.97 × 0.59 × 1.18 in).
